A group of us used Affordable Cabs recently and there were serious issues. In two separate cabs the story went like this : 1) They did not have GPS or knowledge of the requested location. 2) On arrival to location (late) their EFTPOS terminal was 'not working' after 3 or 4 goes. 3) They then insisted on cash, but the driver did not have enough change. 4) We asked for a GST receipt and were told no because he had 'run out of pages' in his booklet. Dodgy.
On our return (which as pre-booked) they were late for collection at 11.20pm. We then travelled together in a shuttle rather than two taxis and asked to be dropped at Jet Park Hotel and then the rest at Novotel. The driver zoomed past the exit to Jet Park and said it was too late, he had to carry on to Novotel. On arrival at the airport, one of the passengers had to direct the driver to the Novotel entrance because he didn't know where he was going. Then we went to pay. Same story - cash only but thankfully we thought this might happen again and pooled our money for the 100.00+ fare. Also insisted on a receipt which he grudgingly wrote out. Needless to say this was now well after midnight and the rest of us opted not to travel to Jet Park with the same company and suffered the 20.00 airport collection fee rather than get a lift with this company.
I would strongly recommend not using this company an opt for a more reliable taxi service like Auckland Co-Op or Blue Bubble taxis. Affordable 's customer service is terrible, the drivers have no GPS or local knowledge and receipts are hard to come by.
Update: The original taxi payment with the 'faulty' EFTPOS did end up going through, but this was kindly refunded. Hence the 1/2 star for honesty.
We used Affordable Cabs on recommendation for our wedding day and were hugely disappointed. We booked well in advance and they accepted the booking to transport 30 guests to and from our wedding venue (a 15 minute journey). We organised a group booking price per vehicle and discovered later they were charged more and on the meter. The company advised pick up 30 minutes prior to the ceremony time would be more than sufficient. Only a couple of vehicles arrived on time at 3.00pm and they advised our remaining guests ‘we will come back for you’. Needless to say three 15 minute trips later and the bridal party arrived before the last of our guests. At least four calls later to lay a complaint and the manager still hasn’t acknowledged our calls.
This was the worst experience I have had of a taxi company in years. The airport transfer took 45 minutes to arrive. The car was too small to fit our luggage but worst of all we had specifically chosen this company because it said it had a car seat and the one the provided was totally unsuitable for my 2 year old.
