The WellSleep Centre is a sleep investigation unit diagnosing and treating sleep disorders.

Not sleeping well can seriously impact your quality of life and general state of health. The WellSleep Centre provides diagnosis and treatment for sleep disorders.

Part of the University of Otago, Wellington (UOW), the WellSleep Centre provides specialised services to several hospitals and privately-referred patients. WellSleep is an accredited sleep laboratory and is an affiliated provider to Southern Cross Health Society.oma

Wellington Regional Hospital is the largest facility operated by Capital & Coast District Health Board (DHB) and is one of five major tertiary hospitals in New Zealand.

It provides a comprehensive range of specialist secondary services and regional tertiary services. These tertiary services include cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, renal medicine and transplants, genetics, oncology, paediatric surgery, neonatal intensive care, obstetrics, trauma, endocrinology, intensive care, urology, rehabilitation and specialised forensic services.

As a major teaching hospital, Wellington provides an educational environment for medical students of Otago Universitys Wellington School of Medicine and postgraduate training for clinical professionals.

Wellington Regional Hospital is also the regions main emergency and only trauma service, with a rooftop helipad providing a link to surgical, intensive care, neonatal intensive care and emergency services.

Inpatient adult mental health services and a day hospital are provided at Te Whare O Matairangi on the Wellington campus. 

All Capital & Coast District Health Board facilities are smoke free.

Derek Barwood Orthodontics has been established in Howick since 1997. 

Derek graduated from Otago University with a Bachelor of Dentistry in 1980. He worked as a house surgeon at Wellington Hospital for 2 years before travelling to London, where he worked as a general dentist for 4 years. On returning to New Zealand, he purchased Belmont Dental Surgery, in Devonport, where he again worked as a general dentist. 

In 1993 Derek decided to specialise in orthodontics and was accepted for the Masters in Orthodontics degree at Otago University. After 3 years full-time study at Otago, he gained registration as an orthodontist and returned to Auckland with his wife and 3 children. He purchased an established specialist orthodontic practice in Howick, in 1997.

Our team consists of Dr Derek Barwood, our practice manager Deb, receptionist Julia and clinical assistant Michelle. We aim to provide the highest standard of orthodontic care within a friendly, relaxed environment.
