At Four Foot Lodge we try to create a holiday atmosphere for the animals on our 6 ha. life-style block with spacious exercise gardens, lovely trees and a beautiful river across the road.
We, Krista & Wilfred de Blauw, have been the owners of Four Foot Lodge since September 2008.
Krista has a wealth of experience as a fully qualified Veterinarian Nurse and has worked for 22 years in a Veterinary Practice for livestock and small animals in The Netherlands.
As a qualified dog-friendly groomer, with running her own Grooming Centre for 15 years, she has lots of experience in grooming a large variety of breeds.
Wilfred has been working with animals since he met Krista and has been working in and around the kennels for the past 10 years.
We are responsible, dedicated and passionate about the welfare of all animals and we know how to take care of them and give your pet(s)"A pleasant stay, while you are away!"

Whanganui Scenic Experience Jet is owned and operated by Mark and Claire Wickham.  We operate from our base on the family farm on the Whanganui River Road in the lower reaches of the Whanganui River.

Your Local Guides
We were both born and bred in the Wanganui area  Mark has lived all his life on the farm his family have worked for the past three generations in the Whanganui River valley for 100 years, and Claire having been brought up in Wanganui before venturing further afield to explore the four corners of the globe.  After travelling the world, we have both returned home to the peace and serenity of the Whanganui River, and enjoy sharing this with all our guests.

Farm Tour
We make sure your time with us is an experience, not just a tour.  That usually starts with our friendly fox terrier Pippi greeting you as you drive up to the house.  As you wander down to the river alongside our orchard, you will stroll past sheep and cattle to board your jet boat or canoe.

If you have never experienced a working farm, you may be in for a treat at shearing time, with pet lambs that are always keen to be fed, or just a normal day with the dogs moving the sheep.

If animals arent your style, well move quickly to the boat and commence your scenic experience on the beautiful Whanganui River.

On all our tours we stop and explore historical and cultural places of interest, and in many instances you will meet some of our local residents who will share stories from their time in the valley.

We have many options depending on how much time you want to spend in the river valley.  Take a short trip up through the beautiful Atene Bush, a longer tour to visit Hiruharama (Jerusalem) and the Matahiwi Gallery, or a full day adventure to the Bridge to Nowhere.

The choice is yours and hopefully we can tempt you to stay in our beautiful region a little longer.

We have plenty of secure parking available and also offer overnight parking for campervans.

The Upper Hutt City Council is the local authority responsible for the area stretching from Silverstream to the Rimutaka Hill summit, encompassing an area of 540 square kilometres. This is a huge area for a territorial authority, and with the rolling hills, expansive rural areas, the bustle of the urban landscape, and the trail of the Hutt River and State Highway 2, Upper Hutt is very diverse.

## Our History
Upper Hutt derives its name from an English Member of Parliament, Sir William Hutt, who was a director of the New Zealand Company (formed in the late 1830s) that organised the settlement of the Wellington and Hutt Valley areas beginning with the arrival of the first immigrant ships from 1840. Early Maori names for the river were Te-Awa-Kairangi and Heretaunga.

Upper Hutt was settled right at the beginning of the European colonisation of Wellington. Richard Barton, its first resident, arrived in 1840 on the Oriental, the second of what is known as the first four ships. He made his home at Trentham in 1841 in the area now known as Bartons Bush. The first town settler was James Brown in 1848.

Upper Hutt was originally part of the Hutt County, constituted in 1877. On 24 April 1908, it was proclaimed a Town Board and the first seven Commissioners were farmer GI Benge (first chairman), milkman RH Williams, farmers A Martin and JT Craig, butcher WR Keys, builder J Harrison and painter FH Wilkie. The first secretary was AJ McCurdy, an outstanding character in this areas local politics. He became first Mayor when Upper Hutt became a Borough on 26 February 1926.

On 28 May 1966 it was proclaimed a city. The northern areas of Rimutaka Riding of Hutt County were brought into the city on 1 April 1973 to give Upper Hutt the second largest land area of any New Zealand city. It grew in size again on 1 November 1988 when the former Heretaunga-Pinehaven Riding was incorporated upon the abolition of the Hutt County Council. Exactly a year later the City of Upper Hutt as it is today was constituted with the abolition of the Heretaunga/Pinehaven District Community Council.

Shopping and the arts too, are well represented here, with plenty of retail therapy on offer and studios and galleries dotted throughout the region, as well as stately gardens and colonial architecture. Get a taste of rural life from one of our many Farm or Home Stays, and if its rural hospitality you're after, dont forget to fit in a visit to one of the many country pubs in the area. 

No matter what time of year you visit, there is plenty to see and do, with a long list of events to ensure you see everything Central Hawkes Bay has to offer.
