In 1994, Laurie Dee, founder and CEO of Rainworks, invented the world`s first bristle filter gutter guard system (the Hedgehog)  He also designed and manufactured one of the first rainwater diverters ever to feature a tall internal reservoir (The Downpipe Tap) thereby speeding up the rate at which it fills rain-barrels & tanks.  A new flushing diverter (The Telescopic  Sleeve & Spout) has recently  been added to the range. This ingenious system makes the task of treating roofs and cleaning gutters so much quicker, easier and safer by enabling you to completely re-route the output of the downpipe away from tanks and storm-water systems in just a matter of seconds. 

Gutter Protection: The Hedgehog gutter guard system has gone on to win numerous national and international awards not only for its effectiveness and ease in which it can be installed and maintained, but also for the fact that doesn`t compromise water tightness and is one of the few gutter guard systems on the market that complies with the warranties on virtually every kind of roofing and spouting imaginable..

Competition from corporate imitators has led to the introduction of a new generation of bristle gutter guard which Rainworks call "Hedgehog Leaf, Bird & Rodent". As the name implies this is a truly multipurpose gutter guard featuring the thickest, strongest grade of bristle available locked inside a twin-wire core of stainless steel. 

Rainwater Harvesting: Interest in recycling rooftop rainwater continues to grow in New Zealand, especially Auckland, where water rates tend to penalise those wanting to maintain lawns and gardens  Seeing the roof of an average size home in Auckland delivers 180,000 litres of rainwater annually this is hardly surprising.

In recent years Rainworks has been working on creating relatively inexpensive rainwater harvesting systems utilising recycled 200 litre food grade barrels.  In keeping with the recycling theme concrete blocks are also promoted for constructing tank stands so that watering cans and the like can be placed under the barrel`s tap. 

In the accompanying "How to recycle rainwater video" Laurie Dee shows you how to install a tap and various other connections to a barrel, how to assemble a tank stand plus the all important part where you connect it all up to a rainwater diverter. 

The Downpipe Tap rainwater diverter mentioned earlier plays a very important role in monitoring the water level in the barrels by automatically re-directing any excess rainwater to continue on down the pipe.
