Gordon (Dairy Management Consultant - BSc Ag Tech) has been a dairy consultant for 20 years, 8 years in East Devon, UK and 12 years in Southland, New Zealand.
The focus through his career has been to optimize the performance of the dairy cow. To enable this to happen a wide range of factors and skills have to be brought together. Staff, high energy grass and profitable management systems being three broad examples!
On arriving in Southland from Devon the focus to improve the margin from forage was a continuing theme, in that many UK dairy farmers were guilty of masking poor grassland management by over feeding supplements!
Gordon’s technical and facilitating role in the West Otago & Southland MAF Sustainable Dairy Farm, 1998-2001 paved the way for positive interaction between farmers, their staff and local government bodies.
Gordon has been studying dispute resolution at Massey University 2011 - 2012, this has enabled him to achieve affiliated membership of AMINZ in 2012(Arbitrators and Mediators of New Zealand).
